De Soto, Missouri, is a small town about an hour south of St. Louis with a main street, a rail line going down the middle, a couple of nice parks, and a lot of small-town pride.
Kristin and Jerry were married at St. Rose of Lima, a beautiful, small cathedral overlooking the town. Built in the late 1800s, it has all the classic features including stone columns, wooden pews, and colorful stained-glass windows. The vaulted ceiling makes for a breathtaking view of the bride and groom as they kneel before the altar.
Kristin and Jerry are the classic office romance; they work and fell in love at the same workplace. We shot their engagement pictures in September in Lafayette Park and all crossed our fingers that the January weather would be good (although Kristin, the discriminating buyer that she is, did ask me what my backup plan was for getting to the church on time if there was a snowstorm!).
Fortunately for us all, the January weather was unseasonably warm and, even though the trees were bare, the warmth allowed us to shoot outside without shivering and to enjoy the day.
Both Kristin and Jerry are warm people and you could catch what the day meant to them in little ways: the picture of Kristin's grandfather attached to her bouquet, her red shoes that revealed the sliver of rebel in her, Jerry's glistening eyes as he saw his bride coming down the aisle for the first time, and their obvious affection for Jerry's daughter Madison.
Our happy couple honeymooned in Jamaica and also renewed their vows there in a second ceremony. I asked Kristin, with a smile, if they needed a photographer for that too... she just smiled back and didn't answer... :)
It was a beautiful day for a beautiful couple. Thanks for letting me be part of it and I wish many happy years for you both to come.
