Although I've been in Michigan before, this was the first time I'd travelled there to photograph a wedding. I've known Christy and Dan for a few years (they were at my wedding to Jackie back in 2006), so I was thrilled when they asked me to be their photographer.
It was very much an intimate family affair with about 50 guests at the small church that Christy's attended for years. The reception was held at the same venue as the ceremony and the beautiful rural countryside surrounding the church made a fantastic backdrop for portraits. Christy was positively beaming all day, from the hair salon in the morning all through to the afternoon buffet.
The ceremony was held at the same venue as the reception and the beautiful rural countryside surrounding the church made a fantastic backdrop for the formal pictures of the family, bridal party, and the happy couple. You can see some of the day’s images in the slide show above (a new way of displaying the photos; let us know how you like it).
My wife Jackie and I stayed at a bed and breakfast run by Christy's uncle called the Inn Between the Lakes -- a wonderful place in a rural setting that helped us both relax and enjoy ourselves. Check out their website at http://www.innbetweenthelakes.com.
And finally, being the animal friendly people we are, Jackie and I ended up stopping by the side of the road three times to rescue turtles that were either on their backs or that were about to crawl across the highway. I got a first-hand lesson from my wife on how and how NOT to pick up a snapping turtle! Quite heart-stopping...
