Rob and Jessica

After a drive of several hours, my photography partner for this wedding, Diane McKinney from Raleigh, North Carolina, and I arrived at a wonderful mountainside home overlooking the expansive valley between Mount Airy and Sparta on the border between Virginia and North Carolina.

The home belonged to the family of the groom and provided a wonderful vista to backdrop the wedding. The valley was so huge you could look towards Mount Airy and see a storm over here and rain over there and all the dry expanse in between.

The bride and groom, Jessica and Rob, were a wonderful young couple who were not superstitious about the groom seeing the wedding dress before the wedding ceremony and we were able to do a lot of bride-and-groom shots beforehand, which allowed them to spend more time with their guests before the reception and more time for us to get good shots of the couple.

Also, the wedding was a bit non-traditional in that there were no groomsmen and no bridesmaids: just the bride, the groom, and the minister. Although it might seem unusual at first, it actually provided for a very intimate ceremony that focused entirely on the couple and their commitment to each other.

The reception was held on the upstairs balcony of the home, again with that marvellous valley as the backdrop, and the evening was capped with a big bonfire in their front yard.

Certainly it was a unique event for a unique young couple and we want to thank them for allowing us to be part of it and wish them much happiness in their future.
